1 Week Cusco Itinerary

If you only have 1 week to explore Peru, Cusco is the best city to spend your time. The city itself is beautiful and makes a great home base for many of the top attractions in Peru.

Day 2 & 3

Tour of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu

There are so many ways to get to Machu Picchu and dozens of different tour options to chose from. Some people chose to hike the Inca trail to reach Machu Picchu and others, like myself, opt for a train/bus to reach the summit. Either way, there are a lot of logistics to booking Machu Picchu so I think it’s best to book a tour that books all the tickets, trains and busses for you. I chose the 2-Day Tour: Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu by Train on Viator which can be found here. I liked this tour because all the stress of planning was dealt with by the tour company and all I had to do was book it. The first day takes you to smaller towns on the way to Macchu Picchu including Pisac, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and ends up at Aguas Calientes (the village at the base of Machu Picchu). The second day is spent touring Machu Picchu and returning back to Cusco. The tour includes all transportation and tickets, breakfast on day 2, an overnight hotel in Aguas Calientes, and roundtrip hotel pick up and drop off. I originally found this tour on Tik Tok so I will link the creators videos below as she does a good job of explaining the tour in further detail.
